Despite a scorching hot weekend with several heat warnings, football did not stop at Randall Island Park in New York, the venue for the fifth date of the 2024 Alianza de Futbol Tour, gathering nearly thirty thousand fans over two days of intense competition.
New York, which has the second largest Hispanic population in the United States in its entire metropolitan area, only after Los Angeles, experienced a weekend full of football. Activities included the Allstate Sueño Alianza tryouts and the Verizon Copa Alianza Sub 23, Ford Copita Alianza, and Alianza 5v5 tournaments. Despite the high temperatures, the participants showed their passion and competitive level, showcasing their skills to win the titles at stake and capturing the attention of professional scouts.
Fans also enjoyed activities at the Sponsor Village, participating in various dynamics and activations organized by Alianza's sponsors. This year is especially significant as it marks Alianza's 20th anniversary, and among the celebration projects is the launch of the official clothing line "Para la Cultura." This collection has been presented in each of the cities on the tour, and New York was no exception.
In the Verizon Copa Alianza Sub 23 category, the team Los Bolos was crowned champion by defeating Young Boys 3-0 in the grand final. This tournament, with 160 players distributed in eight teams, offered a cash prize of five thousand dollars to the winning team. Los Bolos remained undefeated in the group stage and defeated Atlantic Soccer League 1-0 in the semifinal.
Ford Copita Alianza featured 1,872 players in 104 teams, crowning eight champions in different categories. The U15 category had the most participation, with 324 players in 18 teams. JR Academy stood out, winning the titles in both the U15 male and female categories.
In other categories, Elite SC Plainfield Fire won the U7, One Nation SA took the U9, and Virginia United triumphed in the U11. CD Amigos was the champion of the U13, JR Academy dominated the U15 male and female categories, Baltimore FC won the U17, and Mexisoccer prevailed in the U19.
The Alianza 5v5 tournament brought together 304 players in 38 teams, with Futevol Premier White, Ny Select, A.S. Junior Elite-12, and Slammers Gray as champions in various categories. These teams showed great skill in close matches, such as the intense match between Futevol Premier White and Eagles of Stamford (Yellow) in the U8 category.
Allstate Sueño Alianza, the most important tryout program for Hispanics in the United States, registered the participation of 501 young hopefuls. Scouts from teams such as San Diego FC, NY Red Bulls, and Philadelphia Union, among others, were present evaluating the players. Payton Rosado was invited to the National Showcase, becoming the eleventh player selected for the national event in November. Along with her, ten other young players were chosen previously in Dallas, San Antonio, Colorado Springs, and Chicago.
The excitement of the Alianza Tour will continue on August 17 and 18 at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex in Los Angeles, where more tryouts and tournaments, including Ford, Verizon, ViX Alianza Femenil, and the 5v5, will be held.
