Amalia López, a talented alumni from the Allstate Sueño Alianza Class of 2021, is living her dream of becoming a professional soccer player. The Texas native has signed with Chivas of Liga MX Femenil following an impressive journey that included standout performances at the National Showcase in Phoenix, ECNL play, and call-ups to Mexico's U-17 and U-20 national teams.
Amalia López has shown that dreams can come true with dedication and passion. Her journey is an inspiring story of hard work and success. In a conversation with Alianza, Amalia shared her thrilling experience, emphasizing the struggle and love that brought her to where she is today.
"After the National Showcase, I was called to the National Team. I've been in the U-17 and U-20 teams and played with the Texans in the ECNL. I kept working hard, doing what I do best—playing and believing in myself. I had the chance to train with Chivas. They offered me a spot, but I was already committed to Colorado State University. I faced the tough choice between college and playing professionally, and I decided to follow my dream and play professionally," Amalia recounted.
With just 48 hours on the team, Amalia had the opportunity to face FC Barcelona, the most successful team in the world over the past decade, in a match during the Champions Tour at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara.
"Playing against Barcelona, one of the best teams in the world, in my first match was one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me. It was surreal, knowing I was there doing what I love. I never thought I'd play against such a top team so soon," Amalia shared.
What was once a brave decision, thanks to Amalia's determination, has now paid off. "I would say it's truly a dream, and I'm very proud to be part of Chivas. Chivas aims to win, and it's been a really beautiful experience. I want to make the most of it. I've bonded with many of my teammates and made friends. Everyone has been very kind and welcoming, making me feel part of the team from the start," she added.
Amalia reminisced about the day she joined Alianza de Futbol, the gateway to her budding soccer career at the club and national team levels. "It was through one of my brother's coaches that I learned about Sueño. I played the tournament for years but wasn't aware of the Showcase. I was selected, and it set the path for where to start,” Amalia recalled.
“It was very important, considering it was the beginning of my career. When I went to the National Showcase in 2021, it was a highly competitive environment that gave me a taste of what professional life would be like. That made me want to be a professional player even more.”
Amalia López offered advice to future stars on how to make their dreams come true with Alianza. "One of the main pieces of advice I'd give is to stay true to yourself, don't try to be someone else. Show your talent because that's why you're here. Be humble and give it your all on the field," she said.
"I remember having a lot of fun and making many friends. I'm still friends with some of the girls and boys to this day. Alianza de Futbol is a place where you can make friends, learn, become more competitive, and have the hunger to want more, especially after seeing what professional life could be like."
After signing with Chivas, Amalia López joins a successful list of Sueño graduates who are active at the professional level, including Santiago Muñoz, Nico Carrera, Elliana Ramírez, Mauricio Isáis, Nina Nicosia, Jonathan González, Jaylen Vallecillo, and Juan David Zavala. Amalia López embodies how talent, practice, and opportunities align to fulfill dreams. Her story sets a precedent for all young female soccer players who, like her, aspire to reach the highest levels of professional soccer.
